How to play Minecraft online

Everything you need to know about playing browser Minecraft with Eaglercraft on MinePlay — from your first world to joining servers and keeping your saves safe.

How to play

MinePlay runs Eaglercraft, an open-source port of Minecraft Java Edition that compiles to JavaScript and WebAssembly so it runs directly in your browser. There's nothing to download or install — just open the Play page, pick a version, and press launch.

Controls match Minecraft Java Edition: WASD to move, Space to jump, mouse to look, left-click to break, right-click to place, E for inventory and Esc to pause. On phones and tablets, touch controls appear automatically.

1.5.2

Lightest

Best for very old or slow Chromebooks.

1.8.8

Recommended

EaglercraftX — the best balance of features and speed.

1.12

Newer

More blocks and mechanics; needs a bit more power.

Playing singleplayer

From the game menu, choose Singleplayer → Create New World. Pick creative to build with unlimited blocks and flight, or survival to gather resources and fend off mobs. Worlds save automatically to your browser as you play, and you can have as many as your storage allows.

Want a specific map? Enter a custom seed when creating a world — the same seed always generates the same terrain, so you can share seeds with friends.

Joining multiplayer servers

Browse the server list, copy a server's wss:// address, then in-game open Multiplayer → Direct Connect, paste the address and press Join Server. Eaglercraft servers use a proxy that translates the browser's WebSocket connection to the normal Minecraft protocol, so most servers accept both browser and Java players.

You can also play with friends using Shared Worlds — open a world to LAN, share the 5-letter join code, and they connect over a relay. No dedicated server needed.

Playing Minecraft unblocked at school

Because MinePlay loads as a normal web page with nothing to install, there's no software for a school filter to block — which is why browser Minecraft is one of the most reliable ways to play on a managed Chromebook. A few tips:

  • Use the 1.5.2 or 1.8.8 client for the smoothest performance on school hardware.
  • Your worlds are stored in the browser, so they may be wiped if the device cache is cleared — export backups regularly.
  • Always follow your school's acceptable-use policy. Play during free time, keep it appropriate, and don't disrupt class.

Importing & exporting worlds

Your singleplayer worlds live in your browser, so it's smart to back them up:

  • Export: from the world list, choose a world and export it as an .epk file — a complete backup of your terrain, builds and inventory.
  • Import: on any Eaglercraft site that supports singleplayer, choose Load World Backup and select your .epk to continue exactly where you left off.
  • Vanilla worlds: EaglercraftX 1.8 can also import standard Minecraft 1.8 worlds as .zip files.

A free MinePlay account adds automatic cloud backups so your worlds survive even if your browser data is cleared.

Troubleshooting

Game won't load? Refresh the page, make sure WebGL is enabled, and try the 1.8.8 client. Low FPS? Lower render distance in Options, or switch to the lighter 1.5.2 client. Lost a world? Restore from a cloud backup or re-import your last .epk. Can't join a server?Check it's online in the server list and that your client version matches.
